Christmas in July - on Bold @ Laurieton NSW

The Camden Haven Chamber of Commerce and The Port Macquarie Place Making Team are united in helping create areas within the Camden Haven Region that are visually inviting and bursting with activity! It is envisioned that these places are where people want to be, where everyone can connect, and where we all can feel a sense of ownership and pride in the glorious surrounds of this spectacular region.

After listening to the local community, the group have started to turn their ideas into reality. Local community identified that Bold Street needed beautification; requests included more seating in desired areas, bike racks for security, and location signage.

Delightedly we can confirm that the additional seating and bike racks have been installed. Seating in the shape of a dolphin and boat named “The Laurieton Lady” were created and installed by the Laurieton Men’s Shed.

Signage is in the process of being installed and should be completed by the end of 2015.

As Christmas is the most magical time of the year the Camden Haven Chamber of Commerce and the Port Macquarie Hastings Place Making Team decided to reverse hemispheres and the actual timing of this magical time of the year to assist in developing a Northern hemisphere wintery feel for a proposed exciting event. So, on the 25th July 2015, the group conceived a Christmas celebration incorporating a local community Christmas Street Party for an anticipated crowd of 1500 -2000 community members joining in the fun!

And what a celebration it was!

The team developed, organised, and implemented a spectacular showpiece for the people of the region combining local businesses, stallholders and a full schedule of outstanding entertainment all presented by local celebrity Karen Pini.

Local bands and dance groups kept us all moving - Cool Rocking Cats,

Alison Dhu, Bella Bago, Camden Haven Physical Culture, Movement

Studio, Bonny Hills African Drummers, Christmas carols by Rose Wilson and Adam Bishop, Stronghart and more.

There were plenty of accompanying activities to keep everyone entertained and involved, including giant board games: chess, checkers and Jenga and even a visit from Santa himself.

The sun put on a glorious display, shining brightly throughout the day, but this didn’t stop the kids (and kids at heart) from being able to have snowball fights via the near authentic supply trucked in from who-knows-where, possibly the arctic region where Santa calls home.

Bold Street was abuzz with a myriad of food and retail stalls, live music, spirited dancing, games, activities and a fully licenced ‘outdoor’ bar area.

The Laurieton Men’s Shed honoured their contribution to the CBD streetscape by christening the “The Laurieton Lady” boat seat.

School Competitions:

The Christmas Display on show was designed and crafted by North Coast Holiday Parks Bonny Hills with help from a number of students from Camden Haven High School.

The display was designed in order to showcase the excellent work submitted by the local school children for each Christmas competition.

We thank you all for helping to bring the community together for this joyous and wonderful event and we intend on making this a regular attraction to the region for many years to come.

It was exciting to see a number of the schools take part in the competitions and the effort put in was a credit to you all.
