Need to practice what I preach

16/06/2015

Do you live by the beach and never go?

Here at Silver Sands we always love to give our guests, especially those that are new to the park, heaps of information about what Evans Head has to offer.  I always like to tell guests of the beautiful walk from the park to Chinamans Beach.  That our local fishing co-op sells the freshest seafood.  That you can hire a kayak or stand-up paddle board.  Also that you can take your 4WD up the beach.

But for some reason I don't practice what I preach. I hardly ever go to the beach, especially this time of year.  I have only taking a kayak out once and that was because we had family visiting.  I love seafood but never ever buy it enough.  I have walked to Chinamans a few times because it is so beautiful and you don't come across many people out there.  But other than that I am going to put it out there and call myself lazy.

So last month, I decided it was time to make the most of our little town and to see more of it.  I drove out to Gummigurrah walk only to discover that the bridge, right at the start of the walk, has been removed so you can't get across the little creek.  So that wasn't the best start.

Each morning I drive past Bombing Range Road and always thought you could never walk down there because it is the entrance to the Evans Head Air Weapons Range.  But I soon discovered one Sunday morning that the path leads all the way to the far end of Chinamans Beach.  Well, I didn't actually discover that it went to Chinamans while on the walk.  I got about half way, thought I'd better get back otherwise I'd be late for work and then came back to Google it on Google maps.  So I am still yet to complete that walk but it is next on my list of things to do.  I might even drag a few willing park guests along for the ride.

So after living here for nearly 4 years now I have discovered even more wonderful things that I can pass onto my park guests.  If anyone else has any other hidden suggestions I can check out I'd love to hear them.  Thanks
