North Coast organic food wonderland

‘The food!’ must be one of the top things a traveller reflects upon after any adventure. Travel often offers a myriad of experiences for our tastebuds, good and bad. We discover entirely new foods and combinations we may not have previously thought possible.

‘The food!’ must be one of the top things a traveller reflects upon after any adventure. Travel often offers a myriad of experiences for our tastebuds, good and bad. We discover entirely new foods and combinations we may not have previously thought possible.

In Australia we are blessed with a variety of wonderful cuisines from many different cultures (Italian on Melbourne’s infamous Lygon Street anyone?), however, recently we’ve become pretty interested in what is actually growing in our own backyard.

Across Australia there has been a shift in focus on eating organic and seasonal produce – the ‘organics’ industry is growing by 15% every year – and all food lovers can make the most of this during their next holiday park stay.

On a recent trip to Northern NSW we were blown away by the flavours of the fresh produce on offer from farmers and cafes; the fresh organic strawberries, ‘superfood’ salads and even organic pies. Our inner child lit up (cue; the look on a child’s face upon their first bite of an Australian mango come summer)

Our holiday parks are perfectly positioned for you to experience this food lovers wonderland taking shape in northern NSW. Here are some of the top go-to locations whether you may be dining out (many cafes are following the organic food trend) or adding some fresh seasonal produce to your next family campsite cook up.

But firstly what is ‘organic’ food?
Organic produce is grown without the use of pesticides, genetic modification, radiation or synthetic fertilisers. For meat and dairy products organic certification also ensures that animals are not fed antibiotics or growth hormones.

Why buy ‘organic’?
Choosing organic food impacts both ones personal health and the planet. Organic food is said to be more nutritious, tasty, better for your body as it is free from harmful chemicals and more sustainable (gentler on the environment).
