The Mez Club Mediterranean Cantina and Bar opened in September 2016 and
is the creation of local restaurateurs Emma & Greg Thomson.
The Thomson’s who once owned Asia Joe’s in Bay Lane and created the now
iconic Miss Margarita Mexican Cantina in Jonson Street say they weren’t
necessarily planning on another restaurant project.
‘When the ‘for lease’ sign went up in the window I wasn’t expecting to
be its new owner!,’ Emma explains, ‘but after the first ‘just looking’
inspection we were both super excited about the quirky potential of the
space. It was very brown and miserable looking at the time but the core
architecture was so interesting and begged to be transformed. Greg and I
got all excited about archways, high ceilings, cocktails and mezzaine
floors! The Mez Club evolved from that moment and the rest if history!’
The Mez Club was inspired by Moroccan architecture and the Greek Islands
and is renowned for it’s beautiful styling and feel good vibe.
‘It was a major project with lots of challenges but when locals hugged
me in the street to say thank you for the new place to go I knew it had
been worth it!’, said Emma, ‘the local ladies in town particularly love
having somewhere pretty to meet, talk and enjoy their cocktails.’
‘The Mez Club was designed to offer locals and tourists alike a
beautiful and feel good meeting place which has a flexible menu that
works for both grazing and dining. The upstairs space known as The Souk
has been designed specifically to carer for parties and group events,
which was much needed in Byron. Greg and I love the space we have
created and hope that our guests do to. We welcome you and your friends
to join us and create more special memories.’
