Forster Beach Holiday Park
A great park to use as a base and to get out there and discover the amazing trails of the Great Lakes. Whether you are walking or riding there are incredible views of vast and varied landscapes from dramatic coast to deep green forests. For an easy two hour stroll or a challenging five hour ride to tall lookouts, there is something for everyone. Did you know that walking and riding is the most environmentally friendly pastime you can have with the lowest possible carbon footprint?
Get active...jump in a kayak & explore the lakes. There are many small boat, paddle boats and kayak hire companies along the shores of the lake. Have a snorkel in the lake or go for a scuba dive in the ocean.
Take a round day trip South and visit the small surrounding towns of Green Point, Pacific Palms, Smiths Lake and Seal Rocks. Head on to Bulahdelah than back up the highway to Nabiac and visit the bike museum then on to the Failford Road to bring you back into Tuncurry.
If you want to stay closer to the park then visit one of our many gyms in the town, which have a huge range of equipment and hold many classes to suit everyone.
If you need your technology fix each day, there is free wireless internet at the park and clean spacious laundry facilities.
Seal Rocks Holiday Park
Experience the best of the Mid North Coast with a stay at Seal Rocks Holiday Park. The openness and relaxed atmosphere of the park is a favourite for many backpackers. Free WiFi is available and the park has a BBQ area, full laundry facilities and clean amenities.
Get out there and discover the amazing trails of the Great Lakes. Whether you are walking or riding there are incredible views of vast and varied landscapes from the dramatic coast to deep green forests. For an easy two hour stroll or a challenging five hour ride to lookouts, there is something for everyone.
Climb up to the Sugar point Loaf lighthouse. Park your car and walk through the gate. It is a few hundred metres to the lighthouse and lookout. Just before you reach them, you will pass a spectacular sea cavern, where the ocean surges through a tunnel, it has carved at the base of an enormous rock wall. A subsidiary path leads you around the buildings to the lookout over Seal Rocks, a collection of rocky islets which are home to the northernmost colony of Australian Fur Seals. During the summer breeding months the seal population on the rocks is considerable and they can be seen easily from the mainland, though binoculars improve the view.
Take a round day trip North and visit the small surrounding towns of Smiths Lake, Pacific Palms and Green Point. Continue on to the popular holiday destination of Forster/Tuncurry. Head on to the Failford Turnoff and than South back onto the highway to Nabiac and visit the bike museum then back down to the Lakes Way back to Seal Rocks.
Hawks Nest Beach Holiday Park
Hawks Nest Beach Holiday Park is a great place for backpackers to stay, with free WiFi, modern amenities and laundry and a large BBQ area.
If you enjoy a good bush walk you will enjoy the climb up Yacaaba Headland, which 6.5 kms and 3 hours long. This walk starts at the Hawks Nest Surf Life Saving Club, located at the end of Booner Street. From here head South following the beach past Jimmy's Beach Holiday Park and up to Yacaaba headland. Take in the panoramic view of Hawks Nest /Tea Gardens, up the coast to Seal Rocks and South over Nelson Bay. Return via the bayside of the peninsula.
If you are a little more adventurous even more wonders await; Wallingat National Park, Booti Booti National Park and the near iconic Myall Lakes National Park are all very close by. Indeed, Myall Lakes is one of the most visited parks in the entire state, helped largely by the fact that it boasts one of the states largest coastal lake systems - a Ramsar Wetland of International Significance - and 40 kilometres of beaches and rolling sand dunes.
The very best way to experience the magnificent Myall waterways is definitely, quietly, leisurely, comfortably, by kayak. Lazy Paddles offers a great experience for backpackers to experience what the Myall Lakes has to offer with a 2 hour guided historical/nature kayak tours as well as independent kayak hire for those keen to explore on their own. For a couple of hours or for a few days, Lazy Paddles can get you on the water. Immerse yourself in nature in a place with air so clean you can't even see it.
